Media: Interview in Argos

On 17 September 2021, an interview with me about the use of technology to detect deception was published by Argos / VPRO (in Dutch). I discussed my studies ‘to freeze or not to freeze’ on body movement as a cue to deceit and ‘a liar and a copycat‘ about nonverbal synchrony as a cue to deceit. On the one hand, the article is shining a light on the possible benefits of automated deception detection. On the other hand, it is also raising ethical questions about the use of such techniques in society, for example in the context of the border control project iBorderCtrl. I suggested to further open this discussion up to politics and society.
